E1 5NW Pop Up Gallery
Collaborative project between an Artist and an Architect, as featured in The Guardian Guide’s Pick of the Week (and this made us very happy).
Layers of wallpaper, linoleum and textiles have been stripped off and peeled back to leave exposed the layers that have built up over time. Remnants of previous imagined occupants occupy the space; the debris of lives long past, creating a living history. E1-5NW is an art installation in a 1930s Whitechapel mansion block on the corner of Greatorex Road and Old Montague Street in the center of London’s old textile district.
At some point, we’ll get round publishing a short piece giving more details about how it came about, and what we learned. In the meantime, you can find examples of the work, short films made by Julia and Simon and community stuff here:
